As we open our new secondary school building in August 2025 we are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to join our team as the Head of Secondary to provide academic leadership and management of the secondary programmes, the practical completion and opening of our new secondary building, and the professional development of our talented teachers. The successful candidate will be a passionate educator with a proven track record of success in leading and developing a vibrant secondary school environment.
Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
Master's degree in Education or a related field (required).
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent international teaching qualification (required).
Experience in a senior leadership role within a secondary school setting (required).
Proven track record of success in improving student outcomes.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong project management and organisational skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Passion for innovation and a commitment to providing a high-quality education.
Strong ICT skills and a sound understanding of digital technologies.
Responsibilities
Academic Leadership & Management
Provide strategic leadership for the secondary school, aligning curriculum and pedagogy with the school's vision and mission.
Oversee the quality of teaching and learning across all secondary subjects.
Lead the development and implementation of the school improvement plan for the secondary programme.
Manage and mentor a team of secondary school teachers, fostering professional growth and development.
Develop and maintain a strong pastoral care system that ensures the well-being of all secondary students in conjunction with the Student Support Team, School Counsellor and others.
Oversee the smooth running of the secondary school, including timetables, assessments, and student reports.
Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes student engagement and achievement.
Collaborate effectively with the HoS and other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
Represent the secondary school at meetings with parents and the wider community.
New Secondary Building Project
Support the HoS in the establishment and operation of the new secondary building project.
Work closely with contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the building meets the needs of the secondary programme.
Oversee the procurement of furniture, equipment, and resources for the new building.
Support the implementation of Pearson/Edexcel/BTEC programmes
Help to train and mentor staff as internal verifiers, ensuring consistency and adherence to verification procedures.
Develop and manage a verification schedule for all Pearson/Edexcel IGCSE/A-Level and
Pearson BTEC programmes offered by the school.
Conduct rigorous verification activities, including reviewing assessment materials, analysing student assignments, and providing constructive feedback to ensure alignment with programme specifications and assessment criteria.
Data Analysis & Improvement
Work with BCIS Data Analyst to analyse verification data to identify areas for improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
Develop and implement action plans to address identified areas, fostering continuous quality enhancement.
Maintain comprehensive records of all verification activities and outcomes.
Professional Development
Stay abreast of the latest Pearson/Edexcel IGCSE and BTEC regulations and
specifications.
Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff on effective assessment
practices and quality assurance procedures.
Teaching Responsibilities
● Lead and teach one or more BTEC elective subjects at level 2 and 3 in areas such as
tourism and travel or hospitality.
● Teach some secondary classes as per the new timetable.
● Be prepared to act as a substitute teacher when needed.
