We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to join our team as the Head of Secondary to provide academic leadership and management of the secondary programmes, the practical completion and opening of our new secondary building, and the professional development of our talented teachers. The successful candidate will be a passionate educator with a proven track record of success in leading and developing a vibrant secondary school environment.

Qualifications and Skills:


● Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent international teaching qualification (required).

● Experience in a senior leadership role within a secondary school setting (required).

● Proven track record of success in improving student outcomes. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

● Strong project management and organisational skills.

● Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

● Passion for innovation and a commitment to providing a high-quality education.

● Strong ICT skills and a sound understanding of digital technologies.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Academic Excellence:

● 85% of students meeting progress targets

● 90% pass rate on external exams (IGCSE/A-Level/BTEC)

● 100% completion of verification activities on schedule

● Observe all teachers twice per year

Operations:

● 95% student attendance rate

● 100% compliance with deadlines (timetables, assessments, reports)

People & Culture:

● 85% staff retention rate

● Complete all staff evaluations on time

● 4 in-house PD sessions per year using free resources

● 100% staff complete safeguarding training annually

Safeguarding:

● 100% policy compliance

● Termly risk assessments completed

● All concerns logged and addressed within 24 hours

Community:

● 80% parent attendance at information sessions

● Monthly updates to parents

● 85% parent satisfaction rate

● 3+ community partnerships (low/no cost)

Student Leadership:

● Student council established by end of Term 1

● 2+ service learning projects per year

● 70% student participation in service learning

Responsibilities

Academic Leadership & Management:

● Provide strategic leadership for the secondary school, aligning curriculum and pedagogy with the school's vision and mission.

● Oversee the quality of teaching and learning across all secondary subjects.

● Lead the development and implementation of the school improvement plan for the secondary programme.

● Manage and mentor a team of secondary school teachers, fostering professional growth and development.

● Develop and maintain a strong pastoral care system that ensures the well-being of all secondary students in conjunction with the Student Support Team, School Counsellor and others.

● Oversee the smooth running of the secondary school, including timetables, assessments, and student reports.

● Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes student engagement and

achievement.

● Collaborate effectively with the HoS and other members of the Senior Leadership Team.

● Represent the secondary school at meetings with parents and the wider community.

Support the implementation of Pearson/Edexcel/BTEC programmes

● Help to coordinate the implementation of the Pearson Edexcel and BTEC programmes


Recruitment & Staffing:

● Lead the recruitment process for secondary teaching positions, including drafting job descriptions, screening applications, and conducting interviews.

● Develop and implement effective induction programmes for new secondary staff members.

● Conduct regular performance evaluations of teaching staff and provide constructive feedback for professional development.

● Identify staffing needs and plan resource allocation to ensure optimal curriculum delivery.

● Promote staff retention through creating a positive work environment and professional growth opportunities.


Stakeholder Communication:

● Establish and maintain effective communication channels with parents, students, staff, and the wider community.

● Conduct regular parent meetings and information sessions about the secondary curriculum and student progress.

● Develop and distribute newsletters and updates regarding secondary school activities and achievements.

● Liaise with external educational bodies, exam boards, and partner organisations.

● Represent the secondary school at community events and educational forums.


Crisis Management & Risk Mitigation:

● Develop and implement comprehensive crisis management protocols for the secondary school.

● Conduct regular risk assessments of secondary school activities, facilities, and procedures.

● Lead emergency response efforts when necessary, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.

● Establish clear communication procedures for emergencies and critical incidents.

● Review and update crisis management plans regularly to address emerging risks and challenges.


Child Protection & Safeguarding:

● Ensure all staff receive appropriate training in child protection and safeguarding procedures.

● Implement robust safeguarding policies and procedures throughout the secondary school.

● Maintain confidential records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.


Discipline & Secondary School Policies:

● Develop, implement, and regularly review secondary school behaviour and discipline policies.

● Manage serious disciplinary issues and work with students, parents, and staff to find constructive solutions.

● Ensure consistent application of school policies across all secondary year groups.

● Lead initiatives to promote positive behaviour and create a respectful learning environment.

● Oversee the implementation of rewards and sanctions systems that align with the school's values.


Service Learning and Student Council:

● Oversee the development and implementation of service learning programmes that connect curriculum to community needs.

● Support and guide the secondary student council, fostering student leadership and voice.

● Facilitate student-led initiatives that address local and global issues.

● Develop partnerships with community organisations for meaningful service opportunities.

● Integrate reflection practices into service learning to deepen student understanding and personal growth.


Professional Development:

● Stay abreast of the latest Pearson/Edexcel IGCSE and BTEC regulations and specifications.

● Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff on effective assessment practices and quality assurance procedures.

● Register for a senior management programme to enhance skills and knowledge


Teaching Responsibilities:

● Lead and teach one or more BTEC elective subjects at level 2 and 3 in areas such as tourism and travel or hospitality.

● Teach some secondary classes as per the new timetable.

● Be prepared to act as a substitute teacher when needed.
