Head of School's Welcome
The British Concordance International School is an exciting new school, founded in 2022 and growing steadily as it’s reputation grows and new students from across the globe join us in their education journey. My name is Paul Penfold, and I joined the BCIS community in 2023 to lead the school into its next stage of development and growth.
My Story
I have been in education all my working life and hold a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia; a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Publishing from Oxford Brookes University; and a Certificate in Education from the University of Southampton. I am a registered teacher (Qualified Teacher Status) with the Department of Education in the UK. Professionally, I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and was nominated as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce, and Manufacturing in 1996 for my contribution to education and society.
Over the past 25 years, I have worked in various parts of Asia/Pacific in higher education, development education, and human resource development, including consulting for governments and tertiary institutions and schools in the region. I have also worked on projects in Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong, focusing on areas such as e-learning design, metaverse development, and institutional development. I have served as the Director of Studies for the NTT Institute of International Education in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and as the Academic Director of the International School of Hospitality Studies at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Vietnam. I also worked in the Faculty of Business and the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for seven years.

The mission of British Concordance International School (BCIS) in Chiang Mai is to provide a high-quality, well-rounded education that fosters academic excellence, creativity, and personal growth. Our values include respect, integrity, responsibility, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
My vision for the school is to enhance the quality of academic study, foster innovation, promote student-centred and equity-based approaches, and encourage active learning, exploration, and creativity. I believe in creating a supportive and nurturing environment where our students can grow and excel while also ensuring that they are developing tech and life skills to equip them for their futures in our world.
Together with the dedicated faculty and staff at BCIS, I look forward to working closely with our parents and guardians, to achieve our shared goals.
