About the Role
We are seeking a qualified School Counsellor to support the social, emotional, and mental health needs of students across the school. The successful candidate will provide individual and group support while contributing to our whole-school wellbeing programme.
Reports To: Head of School / Head of Secondary / Head of Primary (as appropriate)
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
• Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, or related field
• Professional counselling qualification and registration
• Experience working with children and young people
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality
Key Performance Indicators
• Positive outcomes for students receiving counselling support
• Effective contribution to safeguarding procedures
• Successful delivery of wellbeing education programmes
• Strong collaborative relationships with staff and parents
• Appropriate management of caseload and referrals
Responsibilities
• Provide individual counselling support to students
• Facilitate group sessions on wellbeing, social skills, and resilience
• Assess student needs and develop appropriate support plans
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals
• Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Develop and deliver wellbeing education programmes
• Support students through transitions and critical incidents
• Maintain confidential records in accordance with professional standards
• Provide guidance to staff on supporting student wellbeing
• Stay current with counselling research and best practices
