About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SENCO to lead special educational needs provision across our primary school. The successful candidate will ensure all students with additional needs receive appropriate support while building capacity across the teaching team.
Reports To: Head of School / Head of Secondary / Head of Primary (as appropriate)
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or related field
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent international teaching qualification
• National Award for SEN Coordination or equivalent (desirable)
• Significant experience working with students with diverse learning needs
• Knowledge of assessment tools and intervention strategies
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
Key Performance Indicators
• All students with SEN making appropriate progress against targets
• 100% of students with identified needs having current IEPs
• Positive feedback from parents and external specialists
• Effective deployment of teaching assistants
• Staff confident and skilled in inclusive practices
Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate special educational needs provision across primary
• Identify, assess, and support students with additional learning needs
• Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Provide guidance and training to teachers on inclusive practices
• Coordinate external specialists and support services
• Manage teaching assistants supporting students with SEN
• Communicate with parents about student needs and progress
• Maintain accurate SEN records and documentation
• Contribute to admissions processes for students with identified needs
• Stay current with SEN research, legislation, and best practices
