Why Choose Us
Why Families Choose British Concordance International School
Class sizes are kept small enough that teachers know each child by name, learning style and pace — not just by year group. Students are encouraged to ask questions, challenge ideas and speak up in class, rather than sit as passive recipients of a lesson.
Wellbeing sits alongside academics rather than beneath it. Pastoral staff, sport and bilingual learning are built into the week, not treated as extras.
Academic rigour, clearly mapped
BCIS follows the Cambridge pathway from IGCSE through to A Level, with subject choices guided from Year 11 onwards so that each decision connects to university and career plans. Teaching staff are subject specialists, and progress is tracked closely enough that concerns are caught early, not at the end of term.
A school built around Chiang Mai families, and growing with them
BCIS opened its doors in 2022, and its community has grown steadily since. That growth means every part of the school, from classrooms to pastoral care, has been built deliberately around the families it serves today: remote-working professionals, long-term expats, healthcare and tech families, and Thai families alike — not inherited from a template designed decades ago for a different kind of family.
Chiang Mai's community is smaller and more closely-knit than Bangkok's, and BCIS reflects that: relationships between staff, students and parents are built directly, not managed at arm's length.
Sixth Form Pathway
From IGCSE to A Level: One Continuous Path
Building the foundation: Cambridge IGCSE
In Years 10 and 11, students take Cambridge IGCSE — an internationally recognised qualification that forms the foundation for everything that follows. The curriculum spans a wide range of subjects, giving students room to explore their strengths before they narrow their focus. Alongside subject knowledge, IGCSE study builds the research, communication and time-management skills that A Level and university study will demand.
Rather than a finishing point, IGCSE is treated as preparation: each subject is chosen with an eye on the Sixth Form pathway it leads to.
Specialising with confidence: A Level
In the Sixth Form, students narrow their focus to the subjects that matter most to them. Cambridge A Level rewards depth over breadth, and universities — including Oxford and Cambridge — recognise this.
BCIS supports students through this transition with subject guidance from Year 11 onwards, so that A Level choices connect directly to university and career plans rather than being made in isolation. For families who may relocate before graduation, A Level results also transfer cleanly to universities and school systems worldwide, so a change in plans does not mean starting over.
