The Head of Early Years will be a passionate and experienced early years education specialist to lead our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) department and provide exceptional care and education for our youngest learners (Pre-Nursery - Reception). You will be responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating environment, overseeing curriculum

development and implementation, and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning for all children.

● Degree in Early Years Education or a related field.

● Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching and leadership experience in an Early

Years setting.

● Demonstrated expertise in the EYFS curriculum and assessment frameworks.

● Strong understanding of child development and psychology.

● Proven ability to create and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate

learning activities.

● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

● Passion for working with young children and a commitment to their holistic

development.

● Strong leadership and team-building skills.

● Fluency in English is essential.


Specific KPIs for Head of Early Years Job Specification:


Student Progress and Development:

● 75% of children exceeding developmental milestones in key areas by year-end. This

could be broken down by specific areas like language, physical development, social

and emotional skills, etc.

● 90% of students achieving Good Level of Development (GLD) at the end of

Reception year. This aligns with UK national expectations for EYFS.

● 10% decrease in the number of children falling below expected progress

benchmarks. This demonstrates continuous improvement in supporting struggling

students.


Staff Satisfaction and Professional Development:

● 90% of Early Years staff reporting satisfaction with their workload and support

systems. This could be measured through surveys or regular feedback sessions.

● 100% completion rate of annual performance appraisals for Early Years staff. This

ensures regular feedback and growth opportunities.

● 80% participation rate in professional development workshops and training sessions

offered by the school. This indicates commitment to continuous learning and

improvement.


Programme Effectiveness and Parent Engagement:

● 95% parent satisfaction with the Early Years program, as measured by annual

surveys. This shows a strong commitment to partnering with families.

● 85% attendance rate at parent-teacher conferences and individual student meetings.

● 100% implementation of new curriculum initiatives or program enhancements within

the timeframe set. This demonstrates ability to adapt and improve the program

effectively.


Management and Administration

● Reduce absenteeism among Early Years staff by 5% compared to the previous year.

This ensures programme stability and consistency for children.

● Maintain a 100% compliance rate with all relevant health and safety regulations in

the Early Years setting. This prioritizes the well-being and safety of children.

● Implement at least 2 cost-saving initiatives within the Early Years department while

maintaining programme quality. This demonstrates responsible resource

management.

Responsibilities

● Leadership and Management:

○ Provide visionary leadership for the Early Years department, driving continuous improvement and innovation.

○ Manage and inspire a team of Early Years practitioners, supporting their professional development and well-being.

○ Develop and implement the EYFS curriculum, ensuring alignment with national guidelines and best practices.

○ Oversee assessment and reporting procedures, providing accurate and insightful data on children's progress.

○ Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless transitions throughout the school.

○ Foster a positive and collaborative relationship with parents and families.


● Teaching and Learning:

○ Cultivate a stimulating and playful learning environment that fosters curiosity, exploration, and a love of learning.

○ Implement developmentally appropriate teaching strategies to cater to the unique needs of young children.

○ Create and maintain individual learning plans for each child, celebrating their strengths and supporting their areas for growth.

○ Observe and assess children's progress regularly, providing detailed and actionable feedback to parents and practitioners.


● Pastoral Care and Wellbeing:

○ Ensure the safety and emotional well-being of all children in your care.

○ Build strong relationships with children, providing individual support and guidance as needed.

○ Partner with parents to address any concerns and create a cohesive support system for each child.

○ Promote positive social and emotional development by fostering empathy, self-awareness, and resilience.


● Compliance and Administration:

○ Ensure adherence to all relevant Early Years regulations and policies.

○ Manage budgets and resources effectively to support the department's activities.

○ Contribute to school-wide initiatives and collaborate with other departments.

○ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation.
